The kidneys are two fist-sized organs that are located on either side of the spine just above the waist. They are the organs responsible for cleaning the blood by removing waste and excess fluids, and balancing the body chemicals or electrolytes.

They also produce hormones to maintain healthy bones, help the bone marrow produce red blood cells and regulate blood pressure.
